Belagavi: Demanding that a number of water ponds being constructed in Belagavi on eve of Ganesha Chaturthi should also be used for purposes other than immersion of Ganesha idols, several members of City Corporation urged the government to take a serious note of it. Most of the ponds constructed in the city in various places are being used only for a single day for immersion of idols while they remained neglected and unused throughout the year, they said.

Even as former mayor Kiran Sainak urged authorities to invite tenders for construction of ponds for immersion of idols as Ganesh festival is drawing closer, Ramesh Sontakki, corporator, said, the process of construction of ponds should be taken up well ahead of the festival and tenders be invited at least six months prior to Ganesha Chaturthi. While stating that he never objected to the construction of ponds, he said, the officials should plan its construction effectively.

Mayor Sanjota informed the meeting that tenders would call by city corporation authorities shortly for the construction of ponds and that all the damaged roads in the city would also be asphalted prior to Ganesha festival. She passed a resolution on both this issues assuring the meeting that the developmental works would be taken up effectively.

Earlier, a trend set by DC N Jairam to begin meetings in City Corporation by reciting Naada Geete was strictly followed in the general body meeting by reciting Naada Geete.
