Belagavi/Bengaluru: A software engineer has been arrested by central crime branch police in Bengaluru for developing a mobile app that illegally accessed Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) servers.

The arrested has been identified as Abhinav Srivastava, a native of Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and currently working with Ola as a software engineer at head office in Bengaluru. The police said Srivastava has developed an app named Aadhaar e-KYC Verification, a mobile application which provides Aadhaar data verification and illegally accesses UIDAI servers. Officials of UIDAI said that Srivastava accessing the server is illegal and a serious crime.

Srivastava confessed to police that he has been interested in developing Android mobile applications and he developed the Aadhaar e-KYC App in January 2017 and has earned around Rs 40,000 from advertisements.
