The villagers were angry over the neglect of local authorities and demanded suitable compensation to the lost crop. The farmers urged DC Ziyaulla to come out of his cabin and meet them and later entered the DC office shouting slogans. When DC came out to meet them, farmer Ratnappa threatened to commit suicide with his entire family saying that the sugar factories to which he supplied cane did not respond to his appeal. The DC later held a meeting with the affected farmers at his cabin and assured that he would find a solution to it and ensure that compensation was given to them.
